Microsoft Windows Vista Problem.?

being a computer technician, i feel dumb asking this question, but im putting my ego aside.
i have a problem with my Vista Ultimate OS. it was working fine as of yesterday. but when i booted today, it gave me a blank screen with my [documents] folder open. when i close the window theres nothing else. blank [black] screen. no menus no right clicking, no start menu, no anything. i can do ctrl alt delete and start task manager, and go to run and start [explorer.exe] and once i do that, its ok. but i want to know what the cause of this problem was and the solution. i checked msconfig startups and nothing there. no extra startup services either. spysweepew:CLEAN. norton 360: CLEAN.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

I posted the solution to this problem on my blog a while back:

I subsequently had to reinstall Vista, and since then I haven’t had any problem. I’m not certain why the problem appeared one time but not the other, since I reinstalled pretty much the same software. The drivers for the motherboard might also have had something to do with it.

Hope this helps!
