Question about Windows Vista Business desktop and sidebar?

I have Windows Vista Business on my Sony VAIO. Everytime AFTER I change my screen resolution or just play a full screen game all my icons and the sidebar gadgets on my desktop get rearranged. I try to keep them nice and organized the way I like it. How can I stop the icons and sidebar gadgets from getting rearanged all the time? Thanks.

what is the name of the thingy in the desktop. it is an application that holds the icons for the program shortcuts that you chose. icons are scrolling up and down as you move the mouse. like the vista sidebar but instead of showing clocks and pictures, it shows applications shortcuts and usually runs on a cool transparent/translucent bg~
