How do I disable or uninstall uneeded services and apps in Vista?

I am running it and I don't like how it's hogging all my resources. Please let me know how I can disable and tweak Vista.
the answer is by Computer Wizard :to uninstall a program go Start, type in Programs, choose Default programs, and on the bottom left corner choose programs and Features and change or uninstall the programs you want

Well I've been in the computer business a long time, at least as far back as 3.1. And I've never had so many un-solvable operating systems issue's as I have had with Vista.

Why does it sometimes not do plug & play the way XP did? Why does it sometimes not recognize external hard drives?

I did some tweaking to my windows vista ultimate 32bit
and by mistake i think i disabled a server that prevented my HP PSC 1410 from working… so any body has an idea about what services in windows Vista affect the printer?
