the answer is by Barney :
You can change the settings to how often you want them updated. I also have vista premium, just click on the windows icon at the bottom left of the screen, go to windows update and then schedule the updates for when you want them to run. Good luck with that anyway.

try to disable windows updates found at the control panel or windows firewall settings

You can go into the Control Panel, System and Maintenance and change windows updating option from automatic to manual.
I’ve done that with my computer. And it worked okay for a while. But lately I’m ready to chuck my Vista computer out of the window. Because whenever I manually install the latest security update for my Internet Explorer 7, my computer looses its internet connection. And there is nothing I can do except use System Restore to remove the latest update.
I’ve even tried installing Opera, Firefox, and Chrome internet browsers. But for some reason none of them are able to connect to the internet with my version of Windows Vista.
The next computer I buy will have either Apple or Linux operating system. With so many software problems, you need to have two computers with different operating systems as back ups for each other in case one of them stops working.

It might be time for a system recovery. Save all your important stuff to disk and try this. It worked for me.

ntoskrnl.exe is a critical system file. A corrupted or improperly installed update is most likely causing the problem.
I recommend that you do a repair install from within Windows – put in the Vista DVD while Windows is running, choose Upgrade, and install as usual. This will restore all system files to the original versions.
Although a repair install should not delete your files, I strongly recommend that you create a backup of your important data before doing this. Also, you might need to reinstall some of the programs that you’ve installed.
