Computer freezes just after login ?

Basically I ran a huge scan on my computer because it was behaving weirdly, it found numerous Trojan’s, so they were sent to the virus vault and removed, I restarted my computer just to finish off the scan and since then my computer will only not freeze if it’s in safe mode (like now), it freezes just after I sign on my account, I see the desktop, no gadget bar …

when i start up vista home premium the login screen comes up as normal, i type in my password then after it loads for a while, a grey screen comes up with windows explorer on it, from this i can access all my files but that is the only thing on the screen is a grey background and windows explorer. CPU = Intel core2 duo Processor E4300 1.8Ghz
RAM = 1024MB/ 1 GB
HDD = 10 GB free space
I’m going to purchase a Graphic Card
NVIDIA GIGABYTE GEforce 7800 GTX , 265MB (64/32 BIT) PCI-E.
