I hate Windows Vista, will Windows 7 be compatible with it?

Hardly anyone has Windows Vista, so none of my word documents or powerpoints are compatible with theirs! I had to get a new computer this year, and I didn't realize that Vista was completely incompatible with everything! Will the new Windows 7 be compatible with my Vista? How would I switch my computer over to Windows 7?
What about how vista has a 34 bit version and a 64 bit version (or something like that, if I was a computer expert I wouldn't be asking a question, would I?) because I had a game that should work for XP and when I loaded it all the animals had no faces and there weren't any words on anything.
Also, if I save something in a later document format, will that change its current text/style etc?

the answer is by justme :
Windows 7 is an operating system, just as Vista is, so compatibility with each other is not an issue. But, as W7 is intended as an incremental upgrade to Vista, it will be compatible with all programs and applications that are Vista compatible. Word documents and powerpoint presentations, if they are Microsoft, should be compatible with other versions of the Microsoft programs, regardless of versions, So either you or your friends are using other branded programs, or corrupted programs
